about

The afternoon before the show at Clown Lounge, we were invited by the owner of Khyber Pass Restaurant to have a meal, completely gratis, at his excellent restaurant. Emel Sherzad set the table with enough food for ten people, but it only the three of us - and the bassist and drummer for Steve Lacy's trio (who were in town) - were there for this feast. It was one of the most pleasant experiences of my life. Emel did it because he loves jazz and exploratory music of all kinds. I'm not sure how he identified us as being in town or sufficiently important to invite to this meal, perhaps it was through Andrew, who had (of course) traveled extensively throughout the States and the world by that time. Thank you, Emel! All of the thanks we provided that day were insufficient to your gift. One of the most positive experiences of my life.

I paired the Clown Lounge and Acadia Theatre performances to make for a nice, long release.

The picture is of a sloth. It is hanging upside down, which is one of the things they do, along with moving very slowly. By this time in the tour, we were hanging upside down and moving very slowly as well. The Twin Cities had the nicest weather this week. We were lucky.
